Bull On Display — Bull Tahr's Majestic Mane in Rut Season
The mane goes up, the posture changes, and suddenly this Bull Tahr looks less like a mountain goat and more like something out of the Serengeti. The display is bird-like in its precision — a slow, deliberate show put on for the nannies feeding nearby, who are doing an excellent job of pretending not to notice. This is one of the most distinctive courtship rituals in New Zealand's high country, and almost nobody gets to see it.
